Historical and ongoing free-text operator downtime notes, ideally with at least a few hundred labelled examples mapping notes to downtime categories.

Systèmes requis

  • erp

Pourquoi ça marche

  • Involve operators in defining the category list so notes naturally align with the taxonomy from day one.
  • Start with a supervised classifier trained on 300–500 manually labelled historical notes before going live.
  • Assign a production manager to review the Pareto weekly and link findings to corrective actions.
  • Build a short feedback loop so operators or supervisors can flag misclassifications, continuously improving accuracy.

Comment ça rate

  • Operators write too little text (e.g. 'broke') making classification ambiguous, the model accuracy stays too low to trust.
  • Categories are defined by management but not validated with operators, leading to a taxonomy that doesn't match real shop-floor language.
  • No one is assigned to act on the Pareto output, so insights accumulate but downtime doesn't decrease.
  • Initial labelled dataset is too small or inconsistently labelled, requiring costly rework before the model is useful.

Quand NE PAS faire ça

Don't launch this when operators currently skip downtime notes entirely or write them only once per shift in batch, fix the note-taking habit first, or classification data will be too sparse and delayed to be actionable.
