Important: There is no universal "right" maturity level. A 200-person SaaS company does not need the same governance rigor as a multinational bank. The framework helps you understand where you are relative to where you need to be.

How to Run a Self-Assessment

5. Benchmark against peers. Context matters. A score of 55 on Infrastructure might be concerning in financial services but adequate for a mid-market retailer. Benchmarking provides external validation and sharpens priorities.

6. Validate with leadership. Test whether findings resonate with senior stakeholders. If the assessment says governance is strong but your CDO disagrees, dig deeper. The discrepancy conversation is often more valuable than the scores.

Interpreting Your Results
