What is Product Portfolio Management?
The discipline of allocating investment, capacity, and attention across multiple product lines or initiatives to maximize strategic impact.
Product portfolio management operates one level above the single-product roadmap. It answers: which products get more investment this quarter, which get less, which get killed. Strong portfolio management requires a shared scoring model (RICE, value/effort, weighted shortest job first) and a forum to run trade-offs in the open. In multi-squad orgs, the portfolio view is the only place where 'we're spreading too thin' becomes visible before it's already true.
