Chapter 10 of 14

The maturity diagnostic

A few questions in conversation give a score out of 100, a stage, a profile by category, then three bets and a first portfolio, with figures drawn from your answers.

The conversation

Assessment in the menu, then Run the diagnostic (or Run it again if one already exists). Eight exchanges at most, in four phases: Understand your organisation, Deep dive, Synthesis, Done. You describe your situation in your own words; the next questions adapt. From the fifth exchange, See my results is available.

On the right, Maturity profile follows the conversation: the Score out of 100 with its stage, a radar, a By category bar, and Patterns marked Observation, Attention or Critical. Before the first answer, the scores appear as answers come in.

The maturity dashboard
The dashboard: the score, the stage, the radar by category, the strengths and the areas to strengthen.

The synthesis: three bets and a portfolio

The Synthesis offers Three bets to start with, ticked by default: keep those you are ready to defend in committee. Each bet carries its hypothesis, its Expected result, a start and a target in points (the start is today's score, the target one notch higher), and up to four initiatives, each marked Readiness or Use case with its impact. The other leads wait under Other leads.

Save and continue writes your answers, then generates the portfolio, one to two minutes. At most four initiatives per bet (and twelve in all) arrive in Next; the rest arrive in Later, at the Idea stage. They join the products you named.

The stages: Exploration below 25, Foundation below 50, Acceleration below 75, Leadership from 75. The score shows on the home page and in a committee pack's Maturity section.

What the diagnostic feeds later

  • On an initiative's Evaluation tab, each feasibility criterion carries a suggestion "diagnostic: n of 5", drawn from the matching sub-categories, once the diagnostic is complete.
  • An initiative's Capability property says what it moves forward. Moving it to Done asks whether the capability progressed; Yes raises the diagnostic by one point.
  • The Dashboard tab keeps the history of assessments, the Overall maturity gauge, the Score by category radar, the strongest sub-categories and those to strengthen, and Download the report.
