Chapter 3 of 14
Initiatives
The initiative is the central object: a list you browse from the keyboard, a one-line creation, and a page that carries everything a committee asks for.
The list
All opens the list. Group it by Products (the default), Bets or Portfolios, or None. Sort by Priority score, Value, Feasibility or Updated. Filter by Status, Owner, Product, Portfolio, Type, Bet, and by value or feasibility score range. My initiatives keeps only yours.
Each row: the state icon, the title with its product and bet tags, the Score (or "Not scored"), the Size, the End date followed by the date GitHub announces when a milestone is attached (red if later, green if earlier), the owner, the Updated time.

- Click a row to select it and read it in the right panel. Double-click, click the title or press Enter to open the initiative.
- The state icon, or the s key, opens the Now / Next / Later / Done menu. The change is saved at once.
- x ticks a row. With rows ticked, a bar offers Status, Size, Attach to a bet, Score the selection and Delete the selected.
- Export downloads an Excel file of the initiatives, or an empty template to fill.
Moving an initiative to Done when it is attached to a diagnostic capability asks once: "Delivered. Does it move "…" forward?" Yes raises the diagnostic by one point on that capability.
Create in one line
Add an initiative, or the c key from the list, opens a single line: a title, or a sentence. A bare title is created and opened at once, with status Later, stage Idea, type Use case.
A sentence goes through a preview first, Before writing: what the sentence gave, field by field (title, status, dates, product, bet, type, size, stage, description), with the trace of each reading ("read in "…"", "matches no product"). Change what you must, then Create. ⇧ Enter forces the preview.

An end date within six months reads Now, within a year Next, beyond Later. A stage implies a status: Idea gives Later, Validated or Planned give Next, In progress gives Now, Done gives Done.
The ⌘K palette creates too: type a title, then Create the initiative "…". A sentence becomes Prepare the initiative "…" and opens the preview on the list.

An initiative's page
At the top: the state icon, the title (click to edit, Enter saves), the stage badge, and two tabs, General and Evaluation. Three cards give the Value out of 100, the Feasibility out of 100 and the Priority score: hovering shows the calculation, clicking opens the Evaluation tab.
Four texts are edited in place (click, leave the field to save, Esc cancels): Description, The problem today, Expected result, The data it depends on. When the last three are empty, Draft from the title writes two or three sentences for each, from the title and what is known of the company. Everything can be corrected.

On the right, Properties: each change is saved at once.
| Property | Values |
|---|---|
| Status | Now, Next, Later, Done. |
| Stage | Idea, Validated, Planned, In progress, Done. Choosing a stage also sets the status. |
| Bet | The bet the initiative serves, or No bet. |
| Capability | What the initiative moves forward in the diagnostic, or None. |
| Decisions | The last decision taken about it in committee. |
| Product | The product that carries it. |
| Size | S (one person, a few weeks), M (a small team, a quarter), L (a team, two to three quarters), XL (several teams, more than a year), or To fill. |
| Type | Use case, Foundation work (it brings nothing on its own, its value is what depends on it), Obligation (it does not have to pay back). |
| Depends on | The initiatives that must be delivered first. A loop is refused. |
| Start, End, Owner, Created on | The dates, the person, the creation date. |
Further down: the Business case and the GitHub block (each has its chapter), the tags (Initiative tags, Targeted end users, Company / department), the Votes and the Comments. The pencil opens the Edit the initiative panel with every field, the bin deletes, after confirmation. These two buttons only appear for the person who created the initiative.
